How Optimism Can Boost Your Chances of Buying Your Dream Home

Jake was a dental aide of one of the local dentists in town. His life was not easy, but he was always happy. His principle in life was that “there’s always something positive in any given situation.” Also, he believes that happiness is a choice. He had his life planned. His first goal was to buy his dream home; marry the girl of his dreams and raise a happy family of his own. He intended to have 4 children. It was a modest dream, but that was enough for Jake. He didn’t aim to become a millionaire.

And so, he lived like a pauper; contented in eating meager meals to save the rest of his money for his house. This went on for several months. “This is good because I’ll stay healthy and I won’t gain weight,” he though positively. He did remain lean and healthy.

One day, he was whistling his way home, when he came to a stop a few feet away from his rented room.

“There you are nephew,” Jake’s uncle was standing at his doorway.

“What brings you here, Uncle?” Jake asked.

“Let’s go inside. It’s a long story.”

Jake learned that his aunt was hospitalized for uterine myoma and they need money for her operation.

“I’m sorry to trouble you, but could you please help me? I’ll pay you back on installment basis, if you agree,” his uncle beseeched him.

Jake had already visualized how his house would look from a distance – his dream house – but…

“Okay, I can lend you the money I’m saving for my house,” Jake told his uncle candidly. “So, I need the money back. You know I’m not growing any younger.”

He was 32.

“Thanks a lot, Jake. I’ll pay you back monthly, don’t worry,” his uncle reassured him.

So, Jake withdrew the money that he painstakingly saved and handed it to his uncle. My priority is to save my aunt’s life. I can start saving again. No big deal. It’s not the end of the world. His optimistic mind reasoned out.

He was glad he was able to help his family. He had lived apart from this family though. His own parents had a business of their own, but their earnings was just enough for them and his remaining 2 younger siblings, who lived with them.

He remembered when he received his first paycheck, he had given the money to his mom, but she had refused to receive it, saying, ”you can save that and prepare for your family life.”

Consequently, Jake started saving again. He continued believing that he would be able to purchase his dream house eventually. In his mind, the house was already there waiting for him.

Jake’s dream has to be put off anew, when he fell ill with viral influenza. He stayed in the hospital for more than a week, and this drained his savings. His mother took care of him in the hospital and wanted to pay his bills, but Jake was adamant, he would use his own money.

With 30% of his hospital bills paid by the government, he was able to check out.

I’m good again, yahoo, this is a great life, he thought. Nothing discourages him. It was good I was confined and was able to rejuvenate.

The next work week, he ate more in the morning to replenish his recuperating body. But he was still eating judiciously.

I’m still young and I have the rest of my life to buy a house and raise a family, he mentally cheered himself up. For pessimistic individuals, they would have become depressed. But not Jake, he was even more resilient in pursuing his goals.

He was happy at all times and appreciated all the good things that came into his life. He never dwelt on the ‘negatives’.

With that positive mental attitude, he was able to jump back where he started and begin saving again. Every month, he saved a portion of his salary, and budgeted what was left.

After several months, he was back to zero again, when his mother got hospitalized for hepatitis. Nonetheless, Jake took it all in stride. It’s not the end of the world, he reminded himself. Tomorrow is another day. He had saved the life of her mother and he was overjoyed that his savings was put to good use.

During the ensuing months, he started saving again. This time, his savings continued to grow until he was able to pay the down payment of a new house. It has two cozy bedrooms and a small backyard, where he could plot his own garden. He loved cultivating plants and watching them blossom.

He would pay in installments, the remaining balance of the house. It was a great achievement for him. He planned to pay the house within 5 years.

In the meantime, he had met the girl of her dreams in the hospital where her mom was admitted. He tried to forget her, but as days passed, her lovely face kept haunting him in his dreams.

Everything happens for a reason. His mother’s hospitalization yielded positive fruits, he smiled to himself.

That day, he went to visit the nurse and formally introduce himself. His first and second attempts were ignored. Lois - that was her name - didn’t even bother to speak to him. He had waited for her at the hospital’s lobby to talk to her, but she refused.

This went on for more than a week, but he never gave up. He was his jolly, kind-hearted self, as he was before.

On the 10th day, Lois stopped, when she came abreast him.

“We can talk at the nearby café,” she said, unsmiling.

Jake followed her with a wide grin on his face. He knew persistence never failed.

“May I know why you wanted to talk to me?” Lois demanded.

“I would like to know you better,” Jake replied truthfully.

“Why?”

“Because you’re the girl of my dreams, and I want to marry you someday,” he blurted out, unable to control his emotions.

Lois’ face grew beet red and she covered her mouth in surprise.

“You’re kidding,” he exclaimed.

“Of course not,” Jake replied and handed Lois the bouquet of roses he had hidden behind his back.

Lois gasped and her eyes twinkled merrily.

And yes, Jake was able to achieve his goal after 6 months. It was a genuine challenge to Jake, because Lois was wary of him. Nonetheless, she found out as she interacted with him that he was actually a good person.

They married after a year, and they lived happily in the dream house that Jake bought - the end.

Optimism attracts good fortune and vibes, hence, always think positively. You can buy the real estate property of your choice, if you try hard enough and work diligently for your dream.
